Deshabillz
Deshabillz were a Visual Kei band (Gothic Rock in Japan) lead by vocalist SHUN, author of all lyrics and creator of the band concept, an obscure and melancholic image, painted in gothic-decadent poetry and music. Main composer were the talented guitarist SHI-NO, capable of writing original songs in gothic rock style enriched by baroque guitarworks. The band name "Deshabillz" comes from French word "déshabillez", meaning devoid/deprived/stripped, and is pronounced "dezabiyé".

~band HISTORY~
In 1992,
vocalist SHUN formed
Deshabillz in Yokohama.
To tell the truth, the band GUST
can be considered the predecessor of Deshabillz. GUST consisted of members: SHUN
(Vocals), You (Guitar), Yuuji (Bass), Yasu (Drums). Typical tune of the time was
"IN THE TIME GOES BY" (the original arrangement featured You on guitar, and
Yuuji on bass) GUST disbanded after the only one live they held; it seems that
their activity period lasted only 1 month. After that live a massive member
change occurred, and a new band appeared, held together by SHUN, Deshabillz.
The members getting together were: on guitar MATSU
(now in Rafflesia), on guitar FUAY
(his actual activities are unknown), on bass YUJI
(he is now a techno DJ). These members may be called the first generation. At
that time on the drums they had a support member,
JUN (then he became a formal member, and is now in
CANARY). Deshabillz started activities as a 5 members act, then become 4 people
after 1 year activity, when MATSU quit the band.
In December of 1992,
they distributed 500 demonstration tapes (titled "DEAD
FINAL JUNK") and 100 video tapes. In
March of 1993, they sale the
demonstration tape "Reste la",
limited press of 100 copies. In addition, the live event "Shinban no Hi" is held,
with Deshabillz as headliner, and Blanche, Kurishuna and other bands forming the
indies Visual scene of Yokohama at the time. The partecipation at the events
always exceeds 300 people.
At the beginning, they recorded the 1st album "Shinjuusha"
with members: SHUN (vocals), FUAY (guitar), YUJI (bass), JUN (drums); for the
indies label of KUROYUME "La Miss", and the schedule release was already done,
but in October 1993
bassist YUJI left the band (he then joined Blanche) followed by guitarist FUAY (he
joined the band lecheur, then checia, then Sunday Beige) and seems that the
release was cancelled and they changed label (signing with
Monster EPs). With the two
original member leaving the band, two new member joined immediately, on bass:
HIROSHI (November of
the same year), on guitar: SHI-NO
(December of the same year). And in December of 1993 they held a One-man 2 DAYS
live at the Yokohama MONSTER, and stopped activity temporarily.
During this pause, they announced the video "Uragiri
no Chi Butai", limited to 1000 copies. In addition,
they offered the
song "Zanzou Yume" to omnibus CD "NEO-ROCKS"
in March of '94.
June of '94, the first
album "Shinjuusha" is
announced, the band starts again activities. As for members of that time, they
are SHUN on vocals, SHI-NO on guitar, HIROSHI on and JUN on drums. But, HIROSHI
left the band at the release of the album (he is not featured in the photography,
only credited.) After that, also JUN secedes. SHUN replace them with
TOSHIYUKI, a roadie of
Deshabillz as drummer and Shigure
on bass. The second album "Seishin Ridatsusha"
is released, and also the video "Jubaku no Shoumei". Short after that, at the
beginning of 1995,
Shigure is hospitalized for an accident and quits the band (he will then join
the band CANARY, with ex-Deshabillz drummer JUN). A little anecdote: "Uragiri no
Chi Butai" was a song that JUN
wrote for Deshabillz, but it seems that this tune was an important work for him,
because he used even the same melody, lyrics
and title in his new band CANARY.
After that, a new bassist joined: Hizumi,
ex member of band Delasine.
In 1995 Deshabillz
partecipated in various omnibus album, including two edition of famous "TURN
OVER" compilation of Nippon
Crown label (EAGLE and CROW versions) with bands like Penicillin, BAISER,
Pierrot, ROUAGE, THE DEAD POPSTARS...
Passing a complicated members alternation of this kind in early years,
Deshabillz settled, with these members: SHUN on vocals, SHI-NO on guitar, Hizumi
on bass and TOSHIYUKI on drums. In '96
they realesed two new albums simultaneously: "Toumeimayu
~sukashimayu~" and "Hakuga
no Tsubasa", under the big Visual Kei indies label
Tears Music (part of
ENAMELL
Records), as well as several singles and videos.
In February '97 they
released the best album "~Shakunetsu no Sou~",
and finally they signed with a major label:
Atlantic East
West Japan (part of Warner Music). TOSHIYUKI left
the band and was replaced by KAZUKI.
The first major album "Gekiyaku Kigeki"
is released (September 25th, 1997)
followed in 1998 by
the video+single "Rakuten
Byousha".
Unfortunately, in May 7th, 1998,
when he was driving to attend to the funeral of legendary X-Japan guitarist
hide, he encountered a
car accident and died. Because of that, Deshabillz stopped activities
definitively, SHUN said that without Hizumi a Deshabillz revival was impossible.
An year after, in May 7th 1999,
a mask project band of Deshabillz called "Rasen
VIRUS" was announced, releasing Hizumi
mourning album "Shinjitsu no Omocha Hako"
(under ENAMELL Records).
SHUN started in 1999 a
solo project called Domestic†Child
under indies label ENAMELL/Tears Music. He released 2 mini-albums:
"Yume, Saki ita" (26th May) and "Yume, Saku ita?" (June 23rd), he released a
single in 2000 ("Shinzou"), but after it there
aren't other informations about him.
SHI-NO formed a new
band, JE*REVIENS with
KAZUKI. On vocals
there was Asagi (later a member of Syndrome and presently in D). JE*REVIENS
released 3 albums and a single, and disbanded in 2000. I don't have informations
on SHI-NO after that; while KAZUKI is now a well-known drummer in Visual Kei
scene, he joined Dué le quartz, RusH, and recently Babylon.
